Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third film of horror in the Hatchet Series. It follows the ongoing adventures of Victor Crowley's adventures in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as in addition to his violent murderous rampage. Kane Hodder portrays Victor Crowley while Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanbilt plays Misty.
The film's main strength is the use of real-world special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of makeup effects that are practical and sets. This is different from many horror movies nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. The film also has some really horrifying moments.
The cast gives a solid performance with Kane Hodder being the most intimidating villain. The dialogue is funny and smart enough to make it feel like a slasher movie from the 80s. There are also moments of humor in the movie which add humour to bloody action.
The problem is that the budget is so limited (reportedly $1 million) the majority of (click clip) locations used that are featured in the movie are re-used locations from previous films in series. For example, the same boathouse was featured twice in the film. A lot of the locations seem like they've been reused from other films in this franchise. This can make it feel almost too familiar at times especially for people who've watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2
Overall, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be remarkably similar to other entries in this series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of gory thrills and entertaining performances by its cast.
